Eighty Below

My “cool” new social deduction game.

The Noah’s Arc Project

The mission of the “Noah’s Arc Project” is to establish a facility containing samples of many species of lifeform for preservation in the case of an apocalyptic event. These samples are to be cryogenically frozen to allow for long-term storage. The facility where they will be contained must be secure in the event of a nuclear apocalypse, and also feature extremely low temperatures to ease the burden on the cryogenic cooling systems.

Dome Argus

Of the four candidate locations, “Dome Argus” (-80.37, 77.35) appears most promising. Due to its remote location in the interior of Antarctica, it is extremely unlikely to be targetted in the course of a nuclear war or other apocalyptic event. Furthermore, temperatures there fall to negative eighty degrees celsius during the Antarctic winter, the lowest known temperatures on the Earth’s surface, sufficient for the cryogenic systems.

Surviving the Cold

While in the past these extremely low temperatures may have posed a problem for personnel and machinery, recent advances in cold resistant technology will lessen this burden. In particular, the “PX Magna Exo Suit” will allow personnel to move between the various facilities at Dome A with ease.

The Long Night

The winters in Antarctica are brutal. In spite of this, facilities at Dome Argus require active monitoring and development. We have no choice but to strand a crew at Dome Argus for the winter of 2080. The crew is encouraged to make use of the cryostasis chambers and generous amounts of cardiovascular exercise in order to ease the psychological burden of several months of darkness.

July 2nd, 2080: Incident Report

During a necessary transfer protocol taking place at ██████, an individual known as ██████, who ██████ was necessarily ██████. In the course of ██████, a reaction occurred between ██████ and ██████, leading to the death of ██████ and ██████. Interestingly, this reaction seemed to ██████, a previously unforseen result. It also lead to a temporary power loss of all facilities at Dome Argus. In the aftermath of this power loss, ██████, who during the month of June had been ██████, took matters into their own hands, and ██████. This produced a cascading effect leading to mass hysteria and ██████, culminating in ██████. It’s believed that the psychological effects of the environment at Dome Argus are responsible for this extreme behavior, as individuals involved had undergone extensive psychological evaluations prior to their posting at Dome Argus. Ultimately, there were few survivors, with those remaining describing ██████ as critical to their survival during the incident. At this time, those survivors are being held in custody, although due to the nature of ██████, it’s unlikely that ██████. Whatever the cost and whatever form it may take, the Noah’s Arc Project must continue, however.

Features:

  • This is a social deduction game.
  • I built this game from the ground up to make thematic sense.
  • I’m not going to tell you all of the rules, but I’m going to tell you some of them.
  • I’m going to make sure that you have to betray each other.

How to Play:

  • The game will take place during ten to fifteen one-hour live sessions, conducted remotely over the course of two or three weeks.
  • These sessions will involve typing words into a website to communicate with other players, discover information, and make choices.
  • Here is a video with more detailed rules and a demonstration of the app.
  • Here is a google doc with more detailed rules
  • “Redless#6817” is the discord account to DM, for those who want to ask questions and sign up for the game. I’m aiming to have the first session in late April. Alternately, email “brookmangabriel at gmail dot com”, although I can’t guarantee prompt replies.
